BACK TO SCHOOL MONDAY!
Students will return on Monday, January
5, 2009 and back to a regular routine, at least for a while.
The end of the 2nd
Nine Week Grading Period (and 1st Semester) will be
Friday, January 16.
There will be no school on Monday, January 19 in
observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
CHRISTMAS CARDS COLLECTION
Barrackville School will be a collection point
for recycling Christmas Cards, so feel free to send them into
the school anytime between Monday, January 5 and Monday, January
12. Be sure to remove any pictures and or personal notes you
would like to keep before sending them in.
BISON BASKETBALL RESUMES
After some time off
over Christmas break, the Bison Basketball teams will resume
their schedules.
Good luck to all levels from 4th grade to 8th
grade.
A FEW EXTRA
BISON FLAGS AVAILABLE
A good way to show your Bison spirit
would be to get a Bison porch flag.
They came in just before Christmas and there are about
10 extras.
A color picture of them will be posted here soon.
Contact the school at 367-2128 to purchase one at
$29.00. Contact Susan Boore for more
information.
The
nice part about these flags is that they are good for all
seasons, all sports, and “just because” you want to show your
"Bison Pride".
FREE TEXT
ALERTS
FOR
SCHOOL
NOTICES
Technology is now providing another way for parents and schools
to be more closely connected. How would you as a parent like to
receive text messages on your cell phone and/or emails from your
child’s school to alert you to school delays and/or closings?
How about reminders of things like school picture day, IS days
or early release days, or major school events or programs?
How about, heaven forbid a school emergency or
lock-down?
Welcome to the "free"
MySchoolAlerts,
a state-of-the-art messaging and emergency notification system
for all schools in
North America.
Sponsored by American Income Life, this is a free
service that they provide to schools.
Barrackville School is now registered with this valuable
service. A link to it can be found on the
webpage for posted delays and closures through the West Virginia
Department of Education.
Or you can click on it's logo at the top of this web page.
Just go to the web site;
http://www.alerts.com/MySchoolAlerts; or
click on the logo above, and click on the “Get Started Now”
button. Before you click on that button, you can read more about
the program.
When you go on to the next page, click on “West Virginia” in the first space and
then start typing in the second box, “Barrackville
Elementary/Middle School Barrackville 26559-0150”.
After both boxes are filled, click on “Find
Your School”.
After that, follow all the directions that lead
parents to opt into receiving the types of messages you wish to
have: emails and/or (better yet) text messages.
The nice thing about receiving text messages rather
than email is that most people carry their cell phones with them
most all of the time and check that more frequently during the
day than their email.
Take your time to sign up today, you’ll be glad you did!
If you have any trouble signing up, contact Susan
Boore at
Barrackville
School at 367-2128.

Telesales during the Sweepstakes Period and receive one entry
form; OR 2. Stop by a U.S. Cellular store or U.S. Cellular
Authorized Agent location during the Sweepstakes Period and
receive one entry form. Vote for the school of your choice by
completing the original entry form with all requested
information and mailing it to U.S. Cellular ("Sponsor") at the
address provided on the entry form. Among the information you
must provide is the name and location of the one (1) school you
would most like to receive a Limit one entry per person for the
entire Sweepstakes Period, regardless of the means by which you
obtain an entry form.

www.uscellular.com/callingallcommunities
. All schools in the U.S. Public and private, serving
kindergarten through high school are eligible.

Easy!

BARRACKVILLE NAMED EXEMPLARY SCHOOL
The West Virginia Department of Education has set up a policy
that recognizes outstanding achievement by its students on
the WESTEST state tests. Based on the school's good test
scores, and the high number of students achieving the "Distinguished"
status on their tests, our high attendance rate and other
targeted data, Barrackville School was awarded WVDE EXEMPLARY
SCHOOL status.
Congratulations to our students, teachers, staff, parents, and
supportive community on achieving
this highest honor! Barrackville
